‘Salt’ director: Albany’s downtown freeways tax-waste tragedy, great for filming

“Salt” made its Hollywood premiere Monday, and director Philip Noyce had no shortage of admiring words for Albany’s soaring downtown freeways, in a backhanded kind of way (via NBCLosAngeles.com):

“Due to excessive pork barreling over the years, the capital of New York has built up the most elaborate freeway system you have ever seen,” Noyce said at a screening of the film on Monday night.

There was even “one overpass to nowhere which just stopped,” he added with a little surprise. While clearly a symbol of taxpayer waste, Noyce had to admit: “It was really convenient to one (movie) sequence,” he said. “It’s a tragedy (for taxpayers) but great for filming.”

Selfish possessiveness over existing freeways and demands for more and better roads on the one hand; outrage over excessive state spending and indignant howling about our dysfunctional, eternally gridlocked legislature on the other. Welcome to the New Yorker’s quintessential inner conflict, Mr. Noyce.

Also, here’s Angelina speaking at the screening last night. You know, ’cause she’s really beautiful and shiny and glam, and we’re all going to be breathless and obsessed with “Salt” leading up to the actual release, anyway. Don’t deny it.
